We have been facing unprecedented challenges and difficulties in the past two years. The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged our students, teachers, parents and the community as never before. Suspension of normal face-to-face classes in school has changed how teachers teach, how students learn and how parents maintain the safety and well-being of their children. It is against this backdrop that I am joining S.W.C.S. Chan Pak Sha School as its fifth principal to serve its educational mission. I am glad and honoured to join this big family and walk together with you along the extraordinary path in the future.
After my graduation from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, I endeavoured to work in the sector of education and paid much attention to the Education Reform in Hong Kong. In the past twenty-seven years, I gained substantial experience by taking leading roles in different departments and committees. I have served three aided secondary schools and one statutory body, Hong Kong Institution of Construction. As a principal, I lead and worked harmoniously with my professional staff to take various supportive measures. These were all targeted to provide a caring environment for students and to enable their comprehensive and wholesome development in the moral, intellectual, social, aesthetic and physical aspects. Ultimately, the goal of “all-round development” was pursued. I put great emphasis on catering to every student’s individual learning needs, establishing an inspiring curriculum and cultivating students’ characters. After seven years’ collaborative efforts of the devoted teachers and students, the academic results had significant improvements. The rate of students obtaining JUPAS(香港大學聯合招生) offers increased from 12% in 2013 to 50% in 2019, 51% in 2020 and 52% in 2021.
After talking with every teacher individually in March, I recognise that Chan Pak Sha School is a school that always keeps abreast of the times. The School Motto, ‘Honesty and Integrity’, clearly states our education principle. All our teachers in CPSS strive to create a learning environment that encourages students to explore their greatest potential and to take the academic challenges confidently and enthusiastically. We are committed to provide the best possible education to our students by developing the knowledge, attitudes, and skills essential for life-long learning.
Every school needs strong leadership at the top. However, I think that is not enough. We need leaders throughout our school, in every discipline and at every level. I will take the leadership role to promote the school development. With the concerted efforts of our devoted teachers, parents and alumni, I am confident that not only students’ conduct and self-cultivation, but also their academic results can be significantly improved in the future. We are blessed to have the strong support of parents, alumni and friends from the district, and with the concerted efforts of the teaching staff, I will ensure that CPSS continues to nurture students’ moral development and enhance their academic achievements so as to equip them to be moral and cultural intellectuals who serve the HKSAR and the mother country.
